Cannabinoids Revisited: CBG
Hey folks, time again for another blog post from Cobourg’s one and only locally owned cannabis dispensary! The last few weeks we’ve been revisiting some of the cannabinoids we’ve talked about on here in past posts so that new customers (and long-term customers who might need a refresher) can learn all they need to know about the cannabinoids you’re putting into your body. This week, we’re going to be taking a look at one of our favorite cannabinoids: The gut healing, anxiety crushing mother cannabinoid known as CBG.
Mother…Cannabinoid?
Correct. CBG (or Cannabigerol) is referred to by some as the mother cannabinoid because it’s the first cannabinoid produced by cannabis during it’s growing phase. Through oxidization and exposure to UV light it chemically degrades into THC, CBD and other minor cannabinoids. It’s a proud momma.
Anyway, CBG is non-intoxicating, which means that if your goal is to reach out and touch the face of God without leaving your couch, this will not be your ticket to ride. What it CAN do is arguably even cooler. Research has shown that it can help alleviate anxiety, take the edge off of gastrointestinal issues such as IBS and also help with chronic pain. In case you weren’t aware, gut health and anxiety are closely tied due to the two-way connection between our gut biomes and brain chemistry known as the gut-brain axis. So taking care of your brain helps take care of your stomach and taking care of your stomach helps take care of your brain. Human physiology is a trip sometimes.
Now, it’s important to bear in mind that researchers are still looking into this, but so far, the results are very promising. Gut health is one of those things that’s easy to forget to prioritize, and it really shouldn’t be because it plays a huge role in our overall well-being. Whilst CBG might not help with any and all gut issues, it’s worth trying. We’ve accumulated tons of anecdotal evidence from our customers and budtenders who regularly use CBG to help manage their respective tummy woes.
Like I mentioned above, there are also tons of people who use CBG to help mitigate chronic pain by taking advantage of its anti-inflammatory properties. It’s a great alternative to many of the other options that are offered to long terms sufferers who don’t want to deal with the clown car of side effects that can sometimes arise from taking the pharmaceutical route for pain. That being said, the experience of cannabis is subjective, and mileage varies when it comes to how significant of an impact cannabinoids like CBG can have on issues like pain. When in doubt, seek counsel from a health care professional!
What Products Contain CBG?
Dude, so many. CBG is showing up in everything from edibles and oils to flower. It is probably one of the most popular cannabinoids next to THC and CBN, with more and more people becoming wise to the benefits it can bring to your mental and physical health. So whether your preference is a gummy, a vape cart or something in between, you can find products that have an appreciable amount of CBG alongside the other cannabinoids present. Till next time folks!
